or not – Looking For PEARLS To Surround Me

Looking for PEARLSIf you haven’t noticed I like to be positive. There is nothing bugging me today!

I don’t know about you, but back in the 90’s I tried several of the Network Marketing and Multi-Level Marketing programs without too much success. But by attending their seminars and speaking with other people I did learn plenty on the type of people I want to surround myself with.

How many of you when you suggest a new business idea to family or friends receive a negative response! Do they tell you that it won’t work?

When they see how excited you are, shouldn’t they be encouraging you to go forward with it and wish you luck and success.

I was met with a lot of negative people and I believe that it played some small part in me not moving forward with some of the programs and giving them the effort they deserved.

One of them was when the Internet was really taking off in the mid 90’s before the dot.com bust. I wish I hadn’t listened to all the negativity and really moved forward with that one.

Then I met some great people and in part of the training they talked about surrounding yourself with PEARLS. What are they?

They are people who are:

P positive – to provide encouragementPEARSL to surround me
E enthusiastic – about what you are doing
A achievers, ambitious – who can help you along the way
R risk takers – willing to take a risk on you
L leaders – someone to emulate
S sincere – mean everything they say

This made a tremendous difference to my whole outlook on life. While they are all important, the one characteristic I value the most in people is sincerity.

When I really looked at the people surrounding me, I found that most of them were so negative that I couldn’t stand it anymore. I stopped talking to some of them and looked for PEARLS to surround me.

The Law of Attraction says like attracts like. How true that is? I started seeing immediate results and suddenly I was attracting people with positive attitudes and left the people with negative attitudes behind.

Do you have PEARLS surrounding you?

There is nothing bugging me today!

Ha, I AM a pearl – a ‘nuggetsandpearls’ ;-)(see blog for those who don’t get my drift). But seriously, I totally agree with what you say here and I too have received a lot of negativity whilst persuing my dreams/ambitions. To be honest, it just made me more determined and now I am totally in control of my work, I earn my own living doing what I love to do. It’s hard when the negativity comes from your immediate family, partner even, but since I stuck my neck out I am finding those ‘pearls’ you’ve mentioned and am in touch with some amazing, inspiring people – yourself included. I also feel the same about sincerity, I can spot an insincere person a mile off – I’m all for being genuine and honest even if it means treading on a few toes, one truth is better than a million lies.

Hi Marcia, I thought would like this. Sincerity, honesty and integrity are 3 important things I look for in people. It’s amazing the people you find when you start looking for them. ๐Ÿ™‚

yes, i collect PEARLS too – but they mostly come from my work and public speaking life.

My personal friends, who I’ve had forever aren’t so entrepreneurial, risk taking, full of ideas, prepared to keep up with technology and so on – but they are fun people around the table and great when you’re in trouble. They are also accomplished in many things apart from being a driving force in the self development and self funding world ! They also put the family first – often huge very time consuming families – virtually none of my ‘serious Pearl’ friends are married – so they can focus on whatever consumes their attention.

Being stuck in the middle does feel weird quite often! I think I have two totally different groups around me and i need both but I have to switch ‘sides’ inside myself, rather than ‘just be me’ all the time. Complicated. Something Julie is trying to overcome, I think?

Hi Jenny, you can’t get away from all the negative people in your life when they’re family and close friends. But you can decide on the types of conversations you have with them – don’t talk about anything you know is going to elicit a negative response. ๐Ÿ™‚

I should start looking for a few pearls.

    Hi Rose,

I totally agree about attracting ‘pearls’ into your life…and our Blogging Buddies fit this description beautifully. The support and encouragement we offer each other is always upbeat and positive.

Jenny made an interesting observation when she said that most of her ‘serious Pearl’ friends are single as I have also noticed that many of my ‘Pearl’ friends are single. I have huge admiration for those who are in a successful relationship and manage to juggle so many responsiblities whilst maintaining focus on their passion. That is quite a feat and for now at least, I find that I need to walk my path alone – with the support of you guys of course!

Again, similar to Jenny, my close friends are supportive in their own way, but most of them haven’t a got a clue about what makes my heart sing, and so I look to attract support for my passions outside of this group. I love them all for who they are and enjoy their company…I just don’t share as much of ‘me’ with them. I have learnt to ‘shut up’ and stop talking about my passions when their eyes begin to glaze over and it’s time to change the subject!

Great post Rose – thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Julie, you get that glazed look too!

I understand what you’re saying, but it’s tough sometimes when you can’t share what makes you happy with some of the most important people in your life. I sometimes think they’re being selfish in not wanting to know “what makes my heart sing” and really getting to know me, and who I’ve become. I am not the same person I was 20 or even 10 years ago.

The blogging community has uncovered some genuine “pearls” and the support offered and the encouragement has been wonderful. I really did miss all you guys this week. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for sharing this…i’m gonna go find me some pearls ๐Ÿ™‚
And you are one of them.

    • February 6, 2011 at 3:52 PM

Thanks Stacey so are you. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for this Rose. Sometimes I wonder why I have so many friends but not really “friends”. They aren’t PEARLS. I never realised it until now. Those that I feel closest to are the few people in my life that are PEARLS. They may not be my oldest friends or the friends I spend the most time with, but they are the ones who constantly support me and believe in me, no matter what I come up with! Thanks for being one of my PEARLS!

Thanks so much Shell. I’m glad this has helped you realize who the PEARLS are in your life. Every one of my blogging buddies is a PEARL. ๐Ÿ™‚

I really never heard of this before and LOVE IT Rose.
My life consists of Working, Coming home and only go Out in public if I have to. I have a skin condition that keeps me a prisoner in my own life and home. I am not a negative person. I am around Negative, Toxic people all the time, on a day to day basis. I am my own supporter along with a few online friends. I thank each one today who posts on here and are my friends; because I am a happy person.

Jackie, I’m glad you love it. I’m sorry to hear about your skin condition. I seem to be meeting many bloggers who are suffering with one disease or another yet we are all here together with a positive attitude and enjoying every minute of it.

Keep your positive attitude, wear a smile on your face and start looking for some PEARLS. Seek them out and they will find you before you even know it’s happened. ๐Ÿ™‚

A few years ago when I was going through a “bad” time in my life, a friend told me about the “Law of Attraction”, and gave me the cd “The Secret”. It changed my life. I realized that I had so much negativity around me and it was dragging me down further. I made a conscious decision to get rid of my negative “friends” and look for PEARLS! I still have close friends and family who tend to have a negative attitude to what I am trying to achieve, but that’s ok, I can cope with that.
The result is that I am now mostly surrounded by my PEARLS who support and encourage me, and I keep finding more online – all of my blogging buddies here and you Rose – you are my most influential PEARL!

    • February 6, 2011 at 7:55 PM

Thank you Barb, You’ve been one of my PEARLS for some time now. You’ve been a dear friend to me and your words of encouragement have meant so much to me.

That sounds so much like what I went through. It’s odd how we are all finding each other online and just seem to be attracted to the right blogs to read to make the connection. The Universe does work in mysterious ways. ๐Ÿ™‚
