or not – Weekly Photo Challenge | Shadow

I struggled to find something for Weekly Photo Challenge | Shadow.

This was the best I could come up with.

Not too many shadows in my photos. Although I do like the way this one looks in greyscale.

I love this Rose – both black & white and the colour! Perfect for the challenge.

    • March 6, 2011 at 12:48 AM

Thanks Barb, I decided to try something a little different this time. 🙂

  2. March 6, 2011 at 2:22 AM

I like black and white photo. Thanks for sharing.

    • March 6, 2011 at 3:27 AM

Thanks cocomino, my daughter likes taking black and white photos and she’s taken some great shots. Now I just have to ask her to let me have some of them. 🙂

I really love both colors, what a difference. It’s as If I can picture one and have one feeling and picture the other and have a totally different feeling. Wonderful, brilliant idea.

    • March 6, 2011 at 3:26 AM

Thanks Jackie, it was a beautiful day when I was there except it was really windy out on the point. 🙂

  4. March 6, 2011 at 3:42 AM

Nice Photo Rose…I never gave trees a thought! duh! 😳

    • March 6, 2011 at 3:49 AM

thanks PiP, I couldn’t find a decent photo with some shadows and I have albums full of photos. This was taken about 10 years ago before digital for me!

It reminds me of the photo that’s used on one of the popular WordPress themes. What’s it called, ten twenty or twenty ten? 🙂

    • March 6, 2011 at 9:26 AM

Thanks Joss, I had to look through a lot of photos to find one that had some shadows. 🙂

  9. March 6, 2011 at 10:45 AM

    Nice picks, Rose.
The shadows of nature blend the light and the dark . . . illuminating both.

    Weekly Photo Challenge: Shadows

    Thanks, Rose.

    • March 6, 2011 at 10:52 AM

Thanks. I’ve always loved being in the shade of a forest on a hot sunny day. 🙂

  10. March 6, 2011 at 11:07 AM

Love this Rose! It such an awesome sight to drive or walk down a road where the tree branches form arches such as these. Great photos of shadows.

    • March 6, 2011 at 11:22 AM

Thanks Shell, I’ve always loved that too.

What I find amazing is that there are a few streets in Toronto where the trees are so old and tall that the entire street is always shaded in the summer. Not very much light gets through all the leaves and branches. 🙂

      • March 6, 2011 at 1:15 PM

lived in Toronto area for years. My kids and I used to call those ‘tree tunnels”

        • March 6, 2011 at 1:24 PM

I’ve never heard that term used before.

One street I remember is the top part of Royal York Rd in the west end of the city. That street is so wide it’s more of an avenue than a road.

The trees are huge to cover that much area. 🙂

  11. March 6, 2011 at 11:13 AM

great photos! This week was kinda hard, especially because I used all my shadow photos in my Reflections and Shadows poem last month. But I was finally able to find something different. I love the black and white/greyscale effect you used!

    • March 6, 2011 at 11:31 AM

Thanks Stacey, I decided to get a little creative yesterday.

I tried the black and white effect first but it was just too dark. I’m happy with the way the greyscale turned out though.

Glad you finally found another photo to use. You should post a link to your photo here in the comments. 🙂

that’s a cool shot for shadows. I like it in color…..
[Thanks for the pingback 🙂 ]

    • March 6, 2011 at 11:38 AM

Hi Marina and not a problem. I didn’t know which one I liked better once I saw it with the greyscale effect. I couldn’t decide which one to use so I decided to include them both.

First time adding a slideshow to my blog and it was pretty easy. I will have to do that again sometime.

Your cat looks and sleeps so much like mine does, they could be twins. 😛

  13. March 6, 2011 at 1:48 PM

Tree tunnel was a word I made up for my kids! Royal York Road does have some amazing trees for sure. You all inspired me to go find a shadow picture. Here’s my link

      Hi Joss, great shadow photo.

But like I said on your blog, it usually gets a stomping. 😉

  14. March 6, 2011 at 2:53 PM

Love your photos! Simple, yet awesome. Right on target for the theme, “shadow.” 🙂

    • March 6, 2011 at 3:06 PM

Thanks hugmamma, I wasn’t quite sure about it when I selected it but I think showing it in greyscale gives it another dimension. 🙂

    • March 6, 2011 at 4:31 PM

Hi Pseu and welcome, funny I was just at your blog and commented over there. Interesting photos you’ve got.

Why not come back and post a link to your blog for your Shadow photos. 🙂

  16. March 7, 2011 at 8:44 AM

Lovely shot but I bet it looks spooky at night with a full moon casting moon shadows!

    • March 7, 2011 at 10:01 AM

Thanks Noobcake, It probably would but I was only there for the afternoon. 🙂

  17. March 7, 2011 at 10:47 AM

Oh god !! I have the feeling to miss everything this last month… The Random challenge blog, the weekly photo challenge too ! I don’t know what’s the worst, lol to miss it or to not even know that there were this challenges !! lol 🙂
I really like your photo !! I desperately needed to see some trees and nature 🙂 Thank you so much for this little fresh “air”. 🙂

    • March 7, 2011 at 11:02 AM

Thanks Isabelle, it’s great to see you. Don’t worry, both those challenges are still happening. You can help by heading over to Ryan’s blog and voting on the two polls.

You’ve been working too much! I still have to finish reading your latest blog posting but it sounds like you’re having a rough time.

Do you have some time off this week so you can get some fresh air?

I’ve had enough of winter and can’t wait for spring to arrive and get outside myself. 🙂

  18. March 7, 2011 at 5:50 PM

as long as there’s light, there’s shadow but to freeze the moment at the correct time and place is not always easy. I loved your photos :))
My challenge this week was a piece of photoshop work for women’s day. hope you like it.

  19. March 8, 2011 at 1:18 PM

Hi- I just posted my first Weekly Photo (Shadows). It’s a shot I made just a couple weeks ago, specifically because I loved the shadows! Little did I know how soon I would use it!

Hi Margaret, it’s a great shot. There are many times when I see shots like that but there always seems to be something or someone in the way. 🙂
