or not – I’m Back! – Kind of!

Things in life I find annoying

I guess I should have put up a “Gone Fishing” post.

I needed to take a break but I didn’t think it would be this long. I’m doing fine healthwise and I have actually gained a few pounds – might have to buy some new clothes.  🙂  I’m still skinny but for one of the few times in my life, I don’t have a flat stomach. Last time I remember having a belly was 24 years ago when I was pregnant.

To everyone who has left me messages, sent me emails and tweets, I’m sorry if I’ve caused you concern.

I’m trying to respond to all of you personally but it’s going to take me some time to get through all the emails and read the comments on my blog.

I went offline in March and didn’t come back until the end of June. There was a lot happening and I may tell you about some of it another time.

For now I’m back but I won’t be posting every day. I’ll try for at least once a week and take it from there.

Thank you to everyone who is still subscribed and my new subscribers. Even though I hadn’t posted anything in 3 months you still took a chance on me coming back to my blog. Thanks again and I hope I don’t disappoint you.

You guys have been awesome with your concern and support and I feel like sh** for just leaving and not putting up a “Gone Fishing” post like my friend PiP did.

I’ve missed you guys and I’m looking forward to reconnecting with everyone.

There is nothing bugging me today!

How To Deal With Blogs and Vacations

March 23, 2011 42 comments

Spring officially arrives today at 7:21 p.m. EDT 032011Spring has arrived with people starting to think about planning summer vacations. But this year, some may feel they have a problem because they’ve committed to post to their blogs every day and aren’t sure how they’re going to keep up with it. I’m having a tough time right now just keeping up. This is what’s bugging me today!

Before even summer vacations come around, we have long weekends to deal with. April brings us a long weekend with Good Friday and Easter, in the month of May, we have Victoria Day for the Canadians and Memorial Day for the Americans and I’m sure there are others happening around the globe.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to worry about your blog during these times. What happens if something unexpected comes up and you’re called out-of-town? Wouldn’t it be nice if you had some posts already lined up and ready to publish.

I know I would love not having to worry about my blog during times like that.

We know we can use the scheduling feature to post into the future but first we have to write them. So what do you write about.

Here are some ideas that I’ve offered to others before:

  1. If you love reading, write a short book review, include an excerpt from the book.
  2. If it’s poetry you love, let people know why in a few sentences and include the poem.
  3. Is there a favourite quotation/s that you like. You can do the same here as you did with the poem or book.
  4. Use the WordPress Press this‘ feature and reblog someone else’s post.
  5. Check your ‘Posts I Like‘ and see if there are any you would like to reblog. The feature is right on the page.
  6. Post some photos and tell a story.
  7. Write about your favourite food and maybe post a recipe.
  8. Write shorter posts – make your blog post a 2 or 3-parter.

Which is what I’m doing today! Because if I continue it’s going to be too long. Part 2 with more ideas tomorrow.

The ideas I mentioned above are great to have on hand, ready to publish for those days when you just can’t come up with something or are pressed for time.

What are your plans for the summer?

Will you be taking your blog on vacation with you or will you put up a “Gone Fishing” post?

This is what’s bugging me today!

Trying To Keep Up

March 22, 2011 22 comments

Things in life I find annoyingI try not to be too negative in my writings but I’m having trouble keeping up. This is what’s bugging me today!

Today I want to quote 2 sentences from “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” by Richard Carlson.

#2 Make Peace with Imperfection

I’ve yet to meet an absolute perfectionist whose life was filled with inner peace.

As you begin to eliminate your need for perfection in all areas of your life, you’ll begin to discover the perfection in life itself.

Now I’m not sure that I can stop trying to be a perfectionist completely, but I have to accept that sometimes just doing the best that I can is good enough.

This is what’s bugging me today!

or not – Weekly Photo Challenge | Spring – I found it!

March 18, 2011 38 comments

I’m getting out of my writing slump but I couldn’t resist going out to see if I could find some signs of Spring in the neighbourhood. And I did! There is nothing bugging me today!

In keeping with the yellow flowers I posted yesterday I even managed to find a couple of yellow Crocus poking up out of the ground.

Being In A Slump

March 17, 2011 44 comments

Classyrose, Things in life I find annoying, PostADay2011, PostAWeek2011, Randomblog2011, challengeI’m in a writing slump. This is what’s bugging me today!

There are so many things I start writing about but I just can’t seem to finish them. Just don’t seem motivated to write the last few days. It doesn’t help that I haven’t been feeling too good either.

Is it just that I’m tired of winter?

Instead of the February blahs, I’m experiencing the dreariness of March.

Is it the change in weather? Where I’m teased one day into thinking spring is almost here only to get a blast of cold air the next day and realize that it’s still winter. It was warmer out today but there was a cold wind blowing.

I want to throw off the winter coat, hat, scarf. I want to sit outside and bask in the sunshine.

I want to see flowers poking up out of the ground, buds on the trees, the splashes of bright yellow from the forsythia bushes.

Do you get into writing slumps?

How do you get out of them?

I’m tired of winter.

This is what’s bugging me today!

when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.

or not – I Live My Life…

March 16, 2011 16 comments

Things in life I find annoyingTaking another break from writing today.

There is nothing bugging me today!

I Live My Life to Please Only Myself | Life Success Zone.

I am who I am and this is all that I can be. I am perfectly comfortable and happy with who I am as a person. Though it may seem trivial to say these words, this short message packs a powerful punch.

Other people may go through life trying to look or act like someone else, but I avoid participating in this foolish fad.

I am comfortable within my own skin. I am proud of my career, my love life and the social choices I make. I know that I am a beautiful, attractive and intelligent person within my own right.

Some people may find me to be the epitome of perfection, while others may prefer a different cup of tea. Both opinions are okay because I live my life to please only myself and those closest to my heart.

I realize that many of those who pass judgment on others do so because they are unhappy with themselves. So regardless of what others think, I know that I need only please myself.

I may have a plump shape or too thin a figure, imperfect facial features or a hairstyle that is far from the norm, but my imperfections make me perfect as I am. They make me value my unique self. In a sea of silicone and plastic surgeries, my imperfections allow me to stand out from the crowd in a good way.

Today, I value myself. My individuality gives me the confidence to feel good about myself.

Are you comfortable with who you are?

There is nothing bugging me today!

The Home I Left at 18

This is the home where I grew up with my parents, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters. I have very fond memories of growing up in what is known as ‘Little Italy’ in Toronto. Everything was within walking distance – school, church, shopping, parks. When it wasn’t we would jump on to the TTC’s Red Rocket and it could take us just about anywhere we wanted to go in the city. My brother and I would often take it to High Park to spend the day.

15 Pet Peeves

February 11, 2011 41 comments
pet peeves, annoying, what's bugging me,

Sometimes you’re not quite sure what to write about, just too busy with other things, run out of time or haven’t been feeling too well and not felt much like writing. This is what’s bugging me today!

Well this was one of those days for me and I had this post ready for such an occasion. It was nice to know that I had this sitting in my drafts.

Pet Peeves of Mine

1. Standing in line behind people who wait until the last-minute to pull out their wallet and then go digging for the exact change.

2. Cashiers who insist on packing all your groceries before taking your money or payment. Then you feel like you’re in the way of the next customer while you put your money and wallet away.

3. Cashiers & bank tellers who carry on lengthy conversations with someone instead of serving the next customer when you’ve already been waiting too long.

4. People wearing iPods with the volume turned up so loud that you can hear it sitting 3 seats away on public transit.

5. People who have loud cell phone conversations in public. I don’t care what you did on the weekend.

6. Loud annoying ring tones.

7. People who litter.

8. Not being able to find a trash can on the streets.

9. Pet owners who don’t stoop and scoop.

10. Public washrooms that are over-deodorized. Just because it smells clean doesn’t mean it is!

11. People on public transit who soak themselves in perfume or aftershave. Have they never heard of ‘a little dab will do ya’?

12. People who wear so much perfume/cologne that it hangs in the air long after they’ve left the room.

13. More people who wear too much perfume/cologne and the wind blows it to you from 10 -15 feet away.

14. Stores that use scented pucks in their ventilation system.

15. Having to walk through the perfume section to enter a large department or drug store – not the greatest for anyone with Asthma, COPD or chemical sensitivities.

Do any of these things annoy you?

What are your pet peeves?

This is what’s bugging me today!

or not – Things In Life That Make Me Happy

February 7, 2011 26 comments

Happy Birthday To Me

When I finally got around to writing my About Me page, Marcia – Nuggets and Pearls suggested that I should write about things in life that make me happy and I said I would. There is nothing bugging me today!

This is a list of things that not only make me happy but put a smile on my face and laughter in my voice.

Number one on my list is my loving beautiful daughter who has grown up to be a beautiful young adult. She is kind, sweet, caring, and loving. I am proud to be her mother and lucky to have her as my daughter.

Remembering the happiest day in my life – the day my daughter was born.

The sound of my daughter’s voice when she calls from Vancouver.

The sound of a cardinal’s first song in cold, dreary February – spring is coming soon!

The sound of a baby’s laugh.

Performing random acts of kindness.

The gratitude I receive when helping others.

Putting a smile on someone’s face. 🙂

The first signs of springs – daffodils poking through the snow and buds appearing on branches.

Camping at Cape Hatteras, North Carolina

Sleeping in a tent and listening to the waves crashing on shore during the night and the wind whistling through the sea oats.

Watching children playing in a park and having fun.

My two cats greeting me when I come in the door.

Remembering all the good times I shared with my Mom.

There is nothing bugging me today!

🙂

or not – Looking For PEARLS To Surround Me

February 6, 2011 21 comments

Looking for PEARLSIf you haven’t noticed I like to be positive. There is nothing bugging me today!

I don’t know about you, but back in the 90’s I tried several of the Network Marketing and Multi-Level Marketing programs without too much success. But by attending their seminars and speaking with other people I did learn plenty on the type of people I want to surround myself with.

How many of you when you suggest a new business idea to family or friends receive a negative response! Do they tell you that it won’t work?

When they see how excited you are, shouldn’t they be encouraging you to go forward with it and wish you luck and success.

I was met with a lot of negative people and I believe that it played some small part in me not moving forward with some of the programs and giving them the effort they deserved.

One of them was when the Internet was really taking off in the mid 90’s before the dot.com bust. I wish I hadn’t listened to all the negativity and really moved forward with that one.

Then I met some great people and in part of the training they talked about surrounding yourself with PEARLS. What are they?

They are people who are:

P positive – to provide encouragementPEARSL to surround me
E enthusiastic – about what you are doing
A achievers, ambitious – who can help you along the way
R risk takers – willing to take a risk on you
L leaders – someone to emulate
S sincere – mean everything they say

This made a tremendous difference to my whole outlook on life. While they are all important, the one characteristic I value the most in people is sincerity.

When I really looked at the people surrounding me, I found that most of them were so negative that I couldn’t stand it anymore. I stopped talking to some of them and looked for PEARLS to surround me.

The Law of Attraction says like attracts like. How true that is? I started seeing immediate results and suddenly I was attracting people with positive attitudes and left the people with negative attitudes behind.

Do you have PEARLS surrounding you?

There is nothing bugging me today!

🙂
