Day 60 of the WordPress PostADay2011 Challenge, only 305 to go. There is nothing bugging me today! 🙂

My blog is still evolving and it has a lot to do with the fact I took a risk in February and launched the RandomBlog2011 Challenge. This coincided with the Random Acts of Kindness Week Feb 14-20, 2011.

And if that wasn’t enough of a challenge for me, on February 14, Scott Berkun liked one of my posts on topic suggestions and featured it on The Daily Post at

I had some challenging times that week keeping up with everything that needed to be done for the challenge, replying to comments and still keeping up with my regular blog reading.

Then yesterday a friend emailed me to let me know that the very first post on this blog, and why I started the blog, was mentioned in a system update to their members. It looks like I got their attention because they’ve made improvements to the site which address some of the things mentioned in my post.

I’m proud of the fact that I finally got over my fear of hitting the publish button. That’s one of the things that was holding me back from taking this blog to where it is today.

As to what’s in store for me the rest of the year, is anybody’s guess.

Special mention to Ryan at INSIGHT for starting the Weekly Photo Voting. He visited 60 blogs to find the best 10 for you to vote on. The first topic to be voted on is Boundaries.

or not – Sunday At Last

February 27, 2011 13 comments

Things in life I find annoying, RandomBlog2011 Challenge, PostADay2011, PostAWeek2011Sunday is finally here! I’m hoping this means I can get some well-deserved rest. There is nothing bugging me today! 🙂

Don’t have a lot to report on except to say that February has been exciting and I’m looking forward to what March has in store for all of us.

I’m finally finding some time to read the backlog of posts in Google Reader and I should be caught up soon.

How many of you like the Daily Post Topic Idea from yesterday? Does it sound familiar at all? Wonder where Scott Berkun got that idea from?

While Plinky does have good ideas, some of them I’m not that crazy about but there are bloggers who really love them.

Check out Trying to Find Topic Suggestions if you’re looking for some writing ideas.

I heard from Amy – Other Awesome Things and she told me that her blog was only 4 hours old when I left my comment. Amy said she’s had more hits on this blog than any of her other attempts at blogging, has made new friends and is looking forward to this blogging experience.

I want to say a special thank you to Jackie at Post A Day Challenge 2011. She has done so much to help promote the RandomBlog2011 Challenge by republishing my posts and sending out new posts dedicated to the challenge.

In case you missed them, two of the blogs I discovered last week were “Freshly Pressed” recently.

or not – It’s Not Over Yet – RandomBlog2011 Challenge

February 20, 2011 11 comments

RandomBlog2011, challenge, PostADay2011, PostAWeek2011As the RandomBlog2011 Challenge Week of February 14 – 20, 2011 comes to a close I would like to say that it’s not over yet. There is nothing bugging me today! 🙂

Well, there might be a few annoying things today but I’m not going to let them get in the way. Everyone who has taken part in the challenge has had such a great time meeting up with fellow bloggers that it would be a shame to have it end today.

So as the creator of the challenge and from early poll results, I’ve decided that my RandomBlog2011 Challenge will continue for as long as I have the support of my fellow bloggers in this wonderful online community that’s been created with the WordPress Challenge.

There will be some changes made to it because we can’t continue at this pace. At least I can’t if I want to do anything else like maybe some laundry and shopping.

I just wanted to get the word out to all the readers of my blog that the RandomBlog2011 Challenge will continue so this is all you’re getting now.

Continue to tag your posts with RandomBlog2011 and stay tuned for further details.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in the challenge this past week and for the wonderful words of support and encouragement you have all offered.

I’m still on that roller coaster ride and it is thrilling!

There is nothing bugging me today!

or not – RandomBlog2011 Challenge Day 7

February 20, 2011 29 comments

RandomBlog2011 Challenge, postaday2011, postaweek2011This is Day 7 of the RandomBlog2011 Challenge and from all appearances it’s been a huge success.  More than I could have imagined. There is nothing bugging me today!

Since many of you have expressed an interest that the Challenge continue in some format I’m holding off on doing a final wrap up report.

Yesterday I set up a poll and I would appreciate it if you could take the time to answer it. It’s a simple yes or no answer I’m asking for.

For those who say yes, if you have any suggestions please leave me a comment.

Since this is Day 7 I would like to say a special thanks to Seashell for her suggestion.

We could even help drive a little more traffic to the new bloggers by everyone adding a little footnote in their posts about the new bloggers they’ve visited.

Acknowledging the blogs we visited in our daily posts really did help drive traffic and make even more connections in our online community. Many of you wrote introductions to the new bloggers which I’m sure they appreciated.

The other day I was asked how I find new blogs to visit. There is no special trick I have, I tag surf and something about the post title catches my attention and I visit the blog. Most of the times I’m lucky and if I’m not then I’m gone in seconds. There are still people posting their pledges who have just joined the WordPress PostADay2011 and PostAWeek2011 Challenge.

On my list today is Amy – Other Awesome Things and when I arrived at her blog her hit counter looked like this. Talk about finding a new blog!

blog, stats,

Let’s see a few more hits on it.

Also on my list today is Summerfield84 who has not only just joined the WordPress Challenge but has also decided to write in English instead of his native language of Japanese. A new blog has been set up in English and is easily accessed through the Gravatar. Now here is someone who read my blog post PostADay2011 – Bloggers With No Links and knows how important it is to be all linked up.

Blogs I’ve Visited

Simone Benedict – Simone Benedict’s Blog

Alisa N – MOM, Be Encouraged!

Stein Ink – Stein Ink Thinks

Amy – Other Awesome Things

summerfield84 – Summerfield84’s English Blog

pranjalkoranne – TheCreativeRealms

Rocket – Rocket’s “Insert Here”.

There is nothing bugging me today!

or not – RandomBlog2011 Challenge Day 6

February 19, 2011 26 comments
randomblog2011, challenge, postaday2011, postaweek2011

Having the time of my life!

There are two days left in the RandomBlog2011 Challenge. There is nothing bugging me today!

I’ve been on a roller coaster ride this week and it’s been thrilling. I’ve learned not to be afraid of trying new things and to move forward with my ideas. This challenge was one idea I had considered and I’m glad I took the chance. Now it’s time for me to review my other ideas and projects that have sat on the back burner far too long.

It’s been suggested that the Challenge continue but in a modified way. I’m considering the options and will report back to everyone in a Wrap Up Report.

Saturdays are usually a day when I post Housekeeping but instead I’m going to list two things that I think all bloggers should be aware of to really be a part of the online community and have other bloggers visit their blogs.

When the WordPress Challenge started I would visit The Daily Post to read the comments to see if I could find some blogs to visit. I found some interesting comments but I couldn’t get to their blogs because they weren’t linked up. By that I mean, that neither their name nor their Gravatar had a link to their blog. Well I found that annoying so I decided to write a post PostADay2011 – Bloggers With No Links.

So I ask, Are you linked up?

  • Can people click on your name and get to your blog?
  • Has your blog URL been added to your Gravatar?

If the answer is no, then please read PostADay2011 – Bloggers With No Links. You will find easy instructions on how to link up.

Many of you might have seen my post the other day where my blogging buddy Piglet in Portugal commented “Crikey Rose, you’ve liked a lot of posts!” When I leave a comment I also click the Like button and there is a reason for it.

Reading the comments I also noticed that the bloggers were practically crying out for someone to please read their blog. Because of all these comments I wrote PostADay2011 Bloggers – Click the Like Button Please.

On my blog I give you three ways to let me know you’ve read the post and for me to find out how you feel about it.

  1. If you Rate a blog posting the blogger doesn’t get notified of who did the rating
  2. If you Like a blog posting the blogger receives your information and might come visit
  3. If you Comment on a blog posting the blogger will often come visit and check your blog

The chances of them coming to visit my blog are far greater when I click the Like button and leave a Comment.

Now, if you want other bloggers to visit and read your blog and maybe leave a comment, which option would you choose?

Blogs I’ve Visited

piccolaitaliana – Spoonlighting

Patti – Read Me

DGuidas – whatipic

Ramblings of an Emmett

My regular Housekeeping Saturday post might be coming up later today. I haven’t decided yet and might just skip it this week. I just did mine, did you remember to back up your blog?

There is nothing bugging me today!

RandomBlog2011 Challenge, postaday2011, postaweek2011

Almost there!

It’s been an exciting week and the final days are ahead of us. There is nothing bugging me today!

Just a quick post this time, I promise. I found more new blogs I want to read and need to do some other work.

I know it’s not over yet but I do want to thank everyone who is taking part in the RandomBlog2011 Challenge. The response from the online community of bloggers has been fantastic and being featured on The Daily Post sure did help. Thank you! 🙂

Many of the blogging buddies know that MyEnglishThoughts has been busy working the last few weeks and has not had much time to write on her blog. She had some time off this week and she was chosen by hugmamma for an interview.

Barb19 – Passionate About Pets, a dear friend of mine and a new blogger is featured this week over at Mirth and Motivation.

Blogs I’ve Visited

hugmamma – MIND, BODY and SOUL – Interview with MyEnglishThoughts

mochafrappe – Mochafrappe for me & Inside my Mind

Next-Door Nature

Posky – Posky, Comics and Such

Elzbieta Ewdowiak’s blog

In case you missed it, there was a poll yesterday asking how any blogs you’re reading daily. The poll has also been added to the Polls page. If you haven’t already taken it please take a minute and the results will be reported at the end of the challenge.

I did it, I kept it short today.

There is nothing bugging me today!

or not – RandomBlog2011 Challenge Day 4

February 17, 2011 21 comments

RandomBlog2011 Challenge, postaday2011, postaweek2011There really isn’t a lot to talk about today but then I’m learning to expect the unexpected. There is nothing bugging me today!

From the comments I’m reading, both here on my blog and the blogs I visit and read, it sounds like everyone is having a great time with the RandomBlog2011 Challenge and discovering new blogs and meeting new bloggers. I know I am!

For anyone who needs instructions on how to add an image to your blog check out Noobcake‘s latest post – How to add an image widget to your side bar? He’s gone into a fair amount of detail but it’s easy to follow. You can find the badges at Random Blog Reading.

MK Mercurio left the following comment the other day on The Daily Post on how he discovers new blogs to read.

One other thing I really like about the Daily Topics — I like reading others comments then tracking back and reading their blogs. I try to read at least 5 blogs daily and comment on their posts as a way to connect with these amazing people! I secretly hope they connect with me via comments too but that’s secondary.

Since we’re at the halfway mark this week I thought I would add a poll today.

It looks like the links in my post the other day for the ‘Blogs I’ve Visited’ were pointing to the wrong blogs. So I’m listing them again along with the latest ones. I would like to thank PrimaryThoughts for bringing it to my attention.

Blogs I’ve visited

Peakers82 -Independent Kansan

Joss – Crowing Crone

letsnotgetbored – Brand new blog

Jason Broadhurst

or not – RandomBlog2011 Challenge Day 3 – Tips

February 16, 2011 26 comments

RandomBlog2011 challenge, postaday2011, postaweek2011

My Blog is two months old today. There is nothing bugging me today!

randomblog2011 challenge, postaday2011, postaweek2011, blog, bloggingI’ve come a long way since that day when I published my first post, Featured Post – How It All Started. It’s been an exciting two months, especially this week, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the 2011.

Noobcake was nice enough to create two badges for bloggers taking part in the RandomBlog2011 Challenge. You can visit his latest post Random Blog Reading to grab them. Thank you so much for doing that! 🙂

Update: See my comment for instructions on how to add an image.

I know I said it earlier, but the response has been great and everybody loves the Challenge. Everyone is having a great time checking out new blogs and connecting with more bloggers in this wonderful online community on

There are some who would love to take part but because of time constraints can’t, plus they already visit new blogs to get ideas for their own blogs. Melsar93 of The Mike/Mitch Project liked the idea he’s chosen to list in his latest post some of the blogs that he’s discovered. It was nice to see my first Blogging Buddy on that list.

Here is another tip on how you can find new blogs. Visit the blogs that are Freshly Pressed or FoodPress and read the comments. The trick is to not be one of the first to comment but one of the last. This way you avoid subscribing to comments if you want to see the reply.

Or, we know that if you are one of the first to comment they usually get read, so comment first and then subscribe to the RSS feed for the comments. The comments will just sit in your reader until you have the time to check them out.

Bloggers who visit the Freshly Pressed are usually visiting other blogs and leaving comments. Some are probably doing the same thing you are, trying to get someone to their blog to read it.

Some of my friends recently Freshly Pressed.

Piglet in Portugal
1961 Girl
The Running Garlic

In case you missed it, make sure you read the latest news from on Are you well-versed in comment etiquette?

Some bloggers joining the challenge are tagging older posts so you will have to go back a few pages to find them or you can subscribe to the tag’s RSS feed. This way you won’t have to search for them and they will appear in your reader when tagged. I think you will find that this could save you some time.

This post wasn’t supposed to be another tips post but I just can’t seem to stop myself from sharing these tips with you. 🙂 I don’t think anybody minds, do they?

There is nothing bugging me today?

or not – RandomBlog2011 Challenge Day 2 – Tips

February 15, 2011 39 comments

like, button, comments, randomblog2011, postaday2011, postaday2012I really am enjoying all this. There is still nothing bugging me today! 🙂

I guess Scott Berkun at The Daily Post at really did like my topic suggestions. They decided to use one of them for today.

Challenge: Conduct an interview for your blog

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I like reading the comments on the blogs I visit including the follow-ups after my visit. Many have commented that your email inbox is getting so full that you can’t keep up.

Here are 3 tips which could make life easier for you and won’t fill up your inbox.

Instead of subscribing to comments by email, subscribe to the RSS Comment feed. Once subscribed, you can use your reader to read the comments when you have the time. If and when you are no longer interested in that feed it’s easy to unsubscribe.

The only RSS reader I use is Google Reader and there is an option to search your RSS feeds.  To see if they’ve replied to your comment you can search just one feed or all of them for your name. The most recent is always at the top.

I would imagine that most readers have similar options. There are other options available but I’m trying to make this a short post this afternoon.

While this solution may not be the best it might make it a little easier and keep your inbox from overflowing with comments.

You should also take advantage of the filters that are available in most email programs. Create a new folder for email coming from and once the filter is set up and applied they go directly to that folder and it keeps your main inbox clear for your other more important email.

If you always click the “Like” button and leave a comment you can check them at the main Freshly Pressed page as long as you are signed in. It’s the fourth tab of the six listed – Posts I Like.

randomblog2011, challenge, postaday2011, postaweek2011

Now I said I would list the blogs that I’ve visited in my next post so here they are. There may be one or two missing because I left comments and never received a replied and I didn’t make a note of the blog I visited.

or not – RandomBlog2011 Challenge Day 2

February 15, 2011 37 comments

classyrose, blogging topics,This is how I began my blog posting the other day and how I’m starting it today. There is nothing bugging me today!

There was nothing bugging me yesterday, there is nothing bugging me today and there might not be anything bugging me all week! 🙂

I think some of you may already know why if you subscribe to The Daily Post and if not, I will tell you.

Last night I received a pingback for approval and I thought my eyes were playing tricks on  me. I followed the pingback and realized that Scott Berkun and The Daily Post at chose to feature my blog posting on Trying to Find Topic Suggestions”.

I was stunned! I just couldn’t believe it! I’m honoured to have had it chosen. 🙂

I’ve been adding the link to my blog post to the comments on the Daily Post ever since I wrote it over two weeks ago. But it seems the link I added today did the trick.

Shortly after that the hits started coming in and the comments as well. This has never happened to me before and didn’t know what to expect. Thoughts started running through my head about how busy I could be, could I keep up with the comments, will I have time to read some blogs, will I have time to write this post.

I knew it would be a busy week for me with The RandomBlog2011 Challenge but I never expected my blog posting to be featured. Eventually things slowed down enough for me to do what I had to do.

Back to the business at hand, The RandomBlog2011 Challenge.

Seashell suggested the following in her comment Monday and I think it’s a great idea.

We could even help drive a little more traffic to the new bloggers by everyone adding a little footnote in their posts about the new bloggers they’ve visited.

So for those who have managed to keep track of the new blogs you’ve visited, think about adding them to your next post.

I participated in my first Blog Hop last week and some of you are probably wondering what it is.

What is a Blog Hop and why does it matter? If you have a Blogger blog, you might have come across the term as it is a popular way to connect with other bloggers on a variety of topics, themes, or even just for the fun of connecting. It’s a great way to meet new bloggers, refresh a post that needs some loving attention, and even get a few new comments from others in the blogosphere.

eof737-Mirth and Motivation is hosting two blog hops that started Monday.

As a way to celebrate your writings, your loved ones and you, add your posts to the blue Linkys below and share some blog love with this week’s Mega Blog Hop. Yes mega hop = 2 Linkys. The goal is to motivate each other and help us stay committed to the DailyPost 2011 Challenge. Our Blog Hop is open to all Bloggers everywhere :-) Join in! Read on! :-)

Please visit her blog to learn more on how you can take part.

That’s if for now, this post is longer than I wanted it to be but there was something unexpected that came up. 😉

There is nothing bugging me today!

p.s. I will add the blogs I visited in my next post.
